A month-long exhibition celebrating 40 years of Deaf School was hosted in the public areas of Liverpool John Moores University’s Art & Design Academy from 19 October to 15 November 2013.
The Exhibition was curated by Bryan Biggs, Artistic Director of Liverpool’s contemporary arts centre, the Bluecoat, and an Associate Professor at LJMU, in collaboration with former Art School lecturer, Steve Hardstaff, artist and legendary Liverpool record sleeve designer.
That's more than enough words! Let Nev Astley's excellent photographs now tell you the story of the Exhibition! Thank you very much Nev!
The remarkable display illustrated the fertile art school environment from which Deaf School sprang, and highlights the art/pop music crossover. Exhibits included original art works (including some by band members Tim Whittaker, Sam Davis and Roy Holt), posters, record sleeves, press reviews, photos and other documentary material, rare films of live performances and some band stage costumes set out in six display cabinets and all around the walls.
