Avo in the studio (with a little help from his friends!), July 2009

Mr Average, aka Steve Lindsey, is back in the studio recording a new album with help from several Deaf School colleagues! The CD, to be released in September is called Swinging Suburbia. Click here to download the title track free!

Avo tells Deafster Gossip: "Ian Ritchie has played on a total of three tracks now and there is a track with Bette and Max Ripple, Rain Song, that was great fun to do. They're all sounding better than ever! I think we captured a bit of magic! Max’s piano and accordion playing is brilliant and Bette’s vocal really makes it come alive.

"I've kept all my work in progress from years ago when I was with Deaf School and then The Planets and one or two of the songs on the new Avo CD started life in those days. When the band started gigging again I saw that they may have some relevance after all and I have developed them now with a fresh slant. A few tracks feature recordings actually made about 30 years ago that have been added to and embellished recently."

This is great news for all Deafsters - watch the website for news of the release (and don't bet against hearing a track from the CD at the gigs in September!).

Malibu, March 2009

Clive Langer is on the beach producing a new record by the band formed by Rob Skipper, formerly of The Holloways.  Ronnie Wood dropped in to the studio, accompanied by latest Russian girlfriend, for a slide guitar jam session with the Deaf School star.  There's no truth in the rumour that Wood brought the sad news that the Bob Marley Ride at Disneyland had been closed because it kept jammin'.

Liverpool, until November 2009

There's a great music exhibition entitled The Beat Goes On at the World Museum Liverpool. Running until 1 November 2009, it features exhibits depicting Merseyside music over the years and includes the Vivienne Westwood bondage suit worn on-stage and on the cover of English Boys/Working Girls by our very own Rev Max Ripple. See the suit here - it features vomit-proof leggings as perfected and popularised by The Ramones. Enrico Cadillac Jnr was invited to the opening of the exhibition to represent Deaf School (click image, right).
